Pope names Paglia to two new posts

(ANSA) – Vatican City, August 17 – Pope Francis on Wednesday named 71-year-old archbishop Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia as the new president of the Pontifical Academy for Life and as grand chancellor of the John Paul II Institute, ANSA sources said.
Since 2012, Paglia has been president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, which will cease to exist on September 1 as a result of the formation of a new Vatican dicastery for Laity, Family and Life, to which the Pontifical Academy for Life and the John Paul II Institute will be connected.
Francis named Dallas Archbishop Kevin Joseph Farrell to head this new dicastery.
Paglia replaces Spanish bishop Ignacio Carrasco de Paula as president of the Pontifical Academy for Life, and Vicar General of Rome Cardinal Agostino Vallini as grand chancellor of the John Paul II Institute.
